If all you have are GPS data in the form of latitude and longitude coordinates, you can also visualize your data by creating a map using ShowMyMap’s user-friendly tools. You don’t need to convert your latitude and longitude data into actual addresses to use our tools to generate a map; ShowMyMap supports a wide range of data formats.
It’s As Easy As A Few Mouse Clicks
The process is pretty straightforward. Just follow the steps below.
- Copy the GPS data from your spreadsheet; make sure the latitudes and longitudes are in separate columns.
- Go to www.Showmymap.com and paste the data into the appropriate box (the one on the right).
- Click “Create Map.”
- You will be taken to the Geocoding section; choose the appropriate fields for your GPS data, i.e., latitude and longitude.
- Click “Map Now.”
- Click “Save Map & Continue.”
- Select how you want to save your map: public, unlisted, or password-protected.
- Input your map title, your email address, and some notes or a description.
- Click “Save Map.”
And that’s it! Once your map has been saved, you will be provided with a URL, which you should copy and store somewhere; you’ll also see a button that will directly take you to your map page.
Whatever the format of your GPS coordinates, ShowMyMap can map them for you!
Coordinates In Decimal Degrees
Decimal degrees are the most common format of latitude and longitude data. They look like this:
- 35.929673 latitude; -78.948237 longitude
Coordinates are usually listed with the latitude first and the longitude second. You can directly copy and paste this GPS coordinates data format into ShowMyMap’s tool; just make sure the latitude and longitude coordinates are in separate columns.
Coordinates In Degrees, Minutes, And Seconds
Latitudes and longitudes may also be formatted as degrees, minutes, and seconds. They look like this:
- Directional degrees, minutes, and seconds: 40° 26′ 46″ N 79° 58′ 56″ W
- Directional degrees and decimal minutes: 40° 26.767′ N 79° 58.933′ W
This type of format can be written in a variety of other ways, such as in positive and negative values. Whatever the coordinate data format, ShowMyMap can easily convert your coordinates into a map. This time, all the data should only be in a single column; our algorithms will take care of the conversion and geocoding.
